At St George's Hall on 27 October 2026, Mr Steven (Steve) Thompson was one of the local heroes formally presented with his British Empire Medal (BEM) by the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside.
He was named in the King's Birthday Honours list for his outstanding services to Rugby Union Football and the local community in Crosby, Merseyside.
A 62-year-old accountant from Crosby, he has spent over three decades volunteering and coaching youth rugby at Firwood Waterloo Rugby Club, helping develop future international talent.
And alongside sports coaching, he volunteers weekly by collecting surplus food from local bakeries and delivering it directly to the Missionaries of Charity soup kitchen on Seel Street in Liverpool to feed the homeless.
Well done Steve! Keep up the extraordinary work. And the socks were an excellent touch!
