What a fantastic event at the Club this morning when, under bright blue skies, we welcomed the Women’s Rugby World Cup to the Memorial Ground.
The visit was part of a national campaign to inspire women and girls to get involved in rugby.
We held a free rugby fun day to celebrate the occasion, with rugby training sessions, arts and crafts, face painting and hair design, with our current girls’ and women’s players and former Waterloo Ladies players all getting in on the fun.
Our current generation of girls is following a proud tradition of women’s rugby at Waterloo which has produced famous England internationals including Gill Burns, who won the World Cup in 1994, and current Red Roses World Cup winner Holly Aitchison. Gill was there today renewing her acquaintance with the trophy she helped design!
