I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to touch base to share a few updates with you. Whilst the club has now been closed for nearly two months, a lot of work has been taking place behind the scenes to plan and prepare for next season. Whilst we don’t yet know when the season will begin or what form it will take, we are aware that normality will resume at some point and we want to be ready and raring to go when that time arrives.
Largely due to the good work of Mark Beckett, with support from the Ladies section, extensive maintenance and repair work has been carried out on the pitch in readiness for next year. The pitch has been seeded and is now being regularly watered. To protect the pitch and prevent people from using it whilst the new seed germinates we have locked the vehicle and pedestrian entrances to the ground.
On the playing side, the men’s section have been working hard on their fitness in order to establish a good base for when training resumes. We should shortly be in a position to make several announcements about additions to the squad. We do, though, say farewell (hopefully temporarily) to Alex Tenev, Liam Launders and Kurt Riley who have all decided to test themselves at a higher level. They have been good servants to Firwood Waterloo over the last few seasons – we wish them well and let them know that the door will always remain open should they wish to return. The RFU has released details of the First XV league for next season and information about the Second and Third XV leagues can be found here on the NOWIRUL website.
Neil Ryan, Director of Rugby for Ladies section, has decided to seek a coaching role elsewhere, having overseen affairs for the 2019-20 campaign. Again, he leaves with our thanks and best wishes. I know that Christine Braithwaite has started planning for life in the Championship and she will be grateful any support and assistance that members are able to provide. If you would like to get involved and support the Ladies team, please feel free to drop me or Christine a line.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has joined the 200 Club over the last couple of months. It will make a difference to the long term future of our club. If you would still like to join the relevant information can be found here.
I would like to offer you all my very best wishes and look forward to seeing you in the not too distant future.
