We have had a number of queries from members who pay their subscriptions by direct debit payments, following my email on 27th June.

In the past, we have automatically reactivated direct debits, but this year is different. With our club remaining closed, the Board is not asking for subscriptions to be paid at this time. We have asked for pre-payments if members are able to do so until we receive greater clarity about the start of the playing season.

We can only take a pre-payment if you give us a specific instruction to update your payment facility. To do so, please email Pete Cureton

Dear Members

It is at this time of year that I normally write to you about subscriptions for the forthcoming season.   The club Board has discussed membership for the season 2020/21 in detail and I can now inform you what has been agreed.

We will not send out a general request for the payment of membership subscriptions at this time.   Our premises remain closed and we have no clear indication of when we will be able to recommence playing rugby. Whilst there is some talk about play starting again at different points during the Autumn, I must stress that this is only conjecture.

Having said that, I would like to ask you to support our club by making a pre-payment of your annual subscriptions now, if you are able to do so.   In preparing for re-opening, we will incur costs by taking staff off furlough, purchasing stock, ensuring the club is thoroughly cleaned and acquiring sufficient safety products and equipment. Membership pre-payments will give us the necessary funds to make such preparations.   In making this request, I am very conscious that the pandemic has already affected many individuals and families, and is likely to have a continuing effect for some time to come. I do appreciate that not everyone will be in a position to pre-pay.

Although the club’s funds have been managed very carefully during the closure period, bar and event revenue has been severely interrupted. Subscriptions, therefore, become a vital source of income for our club as they contribute to funding both senior and mini & junior rugby. It is no exaggeration to say that, under the current circumstances, the payment of subscriptions by loyal members is integral to the club’s survival.

Eddie Prendergast has very kindly supported Board members in undertaking a full risk assessment of our premises. This will enable us to re-open with confidence that the required and appropriate level of hygiene and safety is in place for staff, members and guests.   As you would expect, we will fully comply with Government advice for the hospitality industry as well as the RFU’s Return to Rugby Roadmap.  

The logistical issues in re-opening that I raised in my update to you on 6 June 2020, together with Eddie’s recommendations, will incur costs and, as you are aware, we have had no income since lockdown on 23 March. Whilst we are keen to re-open to meet up and enjoy each other’s company again and start to generate income through bar sales and room hire, that will only be possible if we have available funds to prepare our facilities to the standard that we all expect.

Subscriptions run from 1 September and the full annual membership fees for the season 2020/21 that we will propose at the AGM (when it can be held) are:

a.                   Full Single                           £150      no change

b.                   Full Joint                             £170      no change

c.                   Family 2 parents                  £190       no change

d.                   Family 1 parent                   £165       decrease of £5 (so that subs for each category are different)

e.                   Player                                 £120      no change, but this is now the only player category

f.                   Single Child                         £120       for first child, £60 for additional children (agreed last year)

Subscriptions for those who pay by monthly direct debit will increase by £8 a year (£1 per month) for all categories of membership, to cover the charges we incur in operating the scheme. Annual direct debits are unaffected.

If you can pre-pay your annual subscription there are three options:

1.       send a cheque payable to Waterloo 1882 Ltd to Pete Cureton, our membership secretary, at 38a Forefield Lane, Crosby, Merseyside L23 9TH.

2.       to pay by bank transfer, the club’s account details are – sort code 40-29-08, account number 44147669. If you use this method, please add your          name as a reference.

3.       to continue to pay by direct debit, please send a confirmation that we can reactivate your account on 1st September to Pete at
