Dear Members

You will have received correspondence from George Moore last Friday informing you of his decision to stand down as Chairman of Firwood Waterloo FC.  George has been a Director of the club for the last 10 years and has been Chairman since 2017.  During this time he has worked with enthusiasm and dedication, committing a considerable amount of his own time to ensure the smooth-running and on-going development of our club.  For him the time is right to move on and I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of all the club’s members, to thank him for his service to Waterloo.  I am sure he will enjoy spending more time with his young grandchildren and we look forward to seeing him on Saturday afternoons in the future.

As someone who still enjoys playing, the unquestionable priority for me is to ensure we continue to thrive as a rugby club, fielding competitive teams each weekend with men, women and children committing and enjoying the experience, both on and off the field.  Under-pinning this, is the need to ensure the club remains financially sustainable, maintains facilities to a good standard and continues to play a prominent role within the local community.

Delivering on these objectives will be challenging but we are fortunate to have what I believe is a very capable Board of Directors, which has evolved in recent years with more established Directors being joined by new faces.  This group is passionate about Firwood Waterloo and committed to ensuring its future success with your support.  I should mention, in particular, Paul Weare who has generously offered to take on the role of Vice Chairman. 

If you feel that you could contribute to the work of the Board and would like to become more involved, please do get in touch with me.  It would be good to hear from people with commercial expertise who would be able to support and develop the club’s commercial operations.

The lifeblood of any sports club is the body of volunteers who, week in week out, give their time to fulfil a wide variety of roles.  Our club relies on all of our volunteers and, as we embark on a new and exciting season, I would like to offer my thanks for the work you all do and the time you give.

I will write to members in the near future to provide updates on the work of the Board.  In the meantime, I would like to offer all our teams the very best of luck for 2019-20.  I am sure there will be some fantastic rugby on show and fixtures can be found on the club website (  Please do come down, lend your support and stay for a drink in the bar after the game.  I look forward to seeing you at the club during the course of the season.
